Fireside Chat Speaker Introduction

Sharmain Chin

Sharmain is a Gen Zer (aka Zoomer). She holds 2 jobs – one to sustain her and the other to make the world a better place.

Professionally, she specializes in organizational development, employee engagement, organizational culture, and talent management. She also has experience leading projects that have impacted over 60,000 employees.

She is the co-founder of a social enterprise, Total Wellness Initiative Singapore (TWIS), which aims to encourage people to care intentionally about their mental health. TWIS partners with organisations and schools to conduct mental illness prevention seminars and workshops for youths. Some sponsors for these works include IMH and government organisations. She takes time off her day job and spends nights and weekends working on this mission.

Let’s hear what motivates her to a less travelled path and puts her in the driver’s seat.

Genie Gan

Genie is a Millennial. She is a trailblazer in cybersecurity and international government affairs, recognized with prestigious accolades such as Cybersecurity Woman Leader of the Year Award 2024 and Security Innovation Leader of the Year Award 2024. This is especially remarkable as Cybersecurity is a male-dominated industry.

Genie is a seasoned negotiator and influencer in international relations, bringing with her over a decade of experience in government affairs, mediation, and diplomacy. She was also a musician, singer, and entrepreneur who ran a music business. Trained as a lawyer, she has had a decade of experience as an Advocate and solicitor in Singapore. Genie also serves as a volunteer in the grassroots community, where she coaches and mentors youths.

Genie was already a high achiever before entering the Cybersecurity industry. What motivated her to break into the male-dominated arena and prove to the world that women leadership has a place in there?

Sylvia Lim

Sylvia is a Gen Xer. She’s a prominent Singaporean politician, lawyer, former law lecturer, and former police inspector, renowned for her dedication to public service and legal advocacy.

She is currently an MP for the Aljunied GRC, the Chairperson of her political party (she has held this post since 2003), and a patron of Serangoon Gardens Country Club.

It took a lot of courage and drive to join a resource-strapped opposition party 20 years ago, let alone being a female politician in a mostly male cohort. She even resigned in 2011 from her law-lecturer job after 12 years of service to focus on her work as a newly minted MP.

Let’s hear Sylvia tell us her story and her definition of success.
